Andrew Lafleche is a Canadian author, poet, and screen actor whose work moves through violence, addiction, masculinity, grief, and the moral damage people carry long after the event is over. Known for blunt, psychologically charged fiction and poetry, Lafleche writes characters trying to survive their own worst decisions without being forgiven for them.
A professional member of the Writers’ Union of Canada, the Canadian Authors Association, and the League of Canadian Poets, Lafleche is the bestselling author of the military memoir No Diplomacy as well as multiple novels and poetry collections. His work has appeared in literary journals across North America and internationally. He is the recipient of the John Newlove Poetry Award and has been a longtime volunteer on the Literary Selection Committee for Bywords.ca.
Before moving fully into writing and film, Lafleche served as an infantry soldier with the Canadian Armed Forces, including a deployment during the Afghanistan War. He later worked in emergency response as a firefighter and medical first responder, and in anti-human-trafficking operations as an undercover rescue agent. Those experiences continue to shape the realism, tension, and moral ambiguity in his work.
Lafleche holds a Master of Arts in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Gloucestershire. He is currently expanding his work into film, with training through LB Acting Studios and Pro Actors Lab.
He is a disciplined student of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and an avid runner.
Based in Ottawa, Lafleche continues to write fiction, poetry, and screenplays while pursuing roles that draw on his lived experience in high-pressure environments.
